First prize unanimously Queen Elisabeth Competition (1978), Abdel Rahman El Bacha has become a regular member of the jury in the same competition (1991, 1995, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013) and has been Master in residence at the Queen Elisabeth music Chapel. One of his first recordings (1983) – dedicated to the early works of Prokofiev – was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros. About thirty recordings followed, among which the luminous complete Beethoven sonatas (32) in 10 CDs – hailed as a "major event" – as well as the complete solo piano works of Chopin (12 CDs).
